A gamerule is a rule in the game. It allows you to add or change various easy/difficult things in the game. In this knowledge base we explain which ones there are, what they do and how to change them.

The following command allows you to set or adjust a gamerule:

/gamerule <gamerule> <value>.

To view the current value of a gamerule do the following:

/gamerule <gamerule>.

The gamerules are displayed as follows; Gamerule | Value | Default value. Below this line will be a description of the gamerule.

announceAdvancements | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether the changes in an Advancement are announced.

commandBlocksEnabled | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether command blocks are turned on in-game.

commandBlockOutput | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates if command blocks should send a notification to an admin when executed.

disableElytraMovementCheck | True/False | Default: false
This gamerule indicates if the speed of a player with an elytra should be checked.

disableRaids | True/False | Default: false
This gamerule indicates whether raids are on or off in-game.

doDaylightCycle | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether day and night cycle continue in-game. Should you turn this off, you will stop the day or night.

doEntityDrops | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates if entities that are not mobs should drop things.

doFireTick | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether fire should spread and extinguish naturally.

doInsomnia | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether phantoms can spawn in the night or not.

doImmediateRespawn | True/False | Default: false
This gamerule indicates whether players respawn immediately without showing the kill screen.

doLimitedCrafting | True/False | Default: false
This gamerule specifies whether players may only create those recipes that they have first unlocked.

doMobLoot | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates if mobs should drop objects and level points

doMobSpawning | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether mobs should spawn naturally. This does not affect monster spawners.

doPatrolSpawning | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether pillagers can spawn in-game.

doTileDrops | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether broken items drop an item.

doTraderSpawning | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether traders can spawn in-game.

doWeatherCycle | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether the weather can change naturally. The /weather command can still change the weather.

doWardenSpawning | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether wardens can spawn in-game.

drowningDamage | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether the player should take damage when drowning.

fallDamage | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether the player should receive fall damage.

fireDamage | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether the player should take damage in fire, lava, campfires, or on magma blocks.

forgiveDeadPlayers | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether angry mobs stop being angry when the player dies nearby.

freezeDamage | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule specifies whether the player should take damage in powder.

functionCommandLimit | A number | Default: 10000
This gamerule specifies the maximum number of commands that can be executed by /function at one time.

keepInventory | True/False | Default: false
This gamerule indicates whether the player should keep items and levels in their inventory after death. (Should you wish to use this, you must turn it on in both the overworld and nether as well as in the end).

logAdminCommands | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule specifies whether admin commands should be stored in server log.

maxCommandChainLength | A number | Default: 65536
This gamerule specifies the maximum length of a chain of commands that can be executed during one tap. Applies to command blocks and functions.

maxEntityCramming | A number | Default: 24
If there are more mobs in a 1x1 space than the setting, all mobs in the space will take sufficiency damage until the number of mobs drops below the setting.

mobGriefing | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether monsters or animals can cause damage to the world (Move blocks, creeper explosions, etc.).

naturalRegeneration | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether the player can naturally regenerate health if his hunger is full enough (does not affect external healing, such as golden apples, the Regeneration Effect, etc.).

playersSleepingPercentage | A number | Default: 100
This gamerule indicates the percentage of players who must sleep to skip the night.

pvp | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether the player can fight other players.

randomTickSpeed | A number | Default: 3
This gamerule indicates how many block ticks you want per server tick.

reducedDebugInfo | True/False | Default: false
This gamerule specifies whether the debug screen shows all or less information; and whether the effects of F3 + B (entity hitboxes) and F3 + G (chunk borders) are shown.

respawnBlocksExplode | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether beds are allowed to explode in other dimensions.

sendCommandFeedback | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule specifies whether feedback from commands performed by a player should appear in the chat.

showCoordinates | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule specifies whether the coordinates of the player are shown or not.

showDeathMessages | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether death messages are put in the chat when a player dies. (Also influences whether a message is sent to the pet's owner when the pet dies).

spawnRadius | A number | Default: 10
This gamerule indicates the number of blocks outside the world spawn in which a player can spawn.

spectatorsGenerateChunks | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates whether players can generate chunks in spectator mode.

tntExplodes | True/False | Default: true
This gamerule indicates if TNT explodes after activation.

universalAnger | True/False | Default: false
This gamerule indicates whether angry mobs attack every player in the vicinity, not just the player they are angry at.

showTags | True/False | Default: true
Hides the "Can be placed on" and "Can be destroyed" block lists from item lore, as well as item slot indicators.
